Well... as you can see and hear, engine seems to work fine. The fears of the former owner seems might not have been true after all. Although remaining dirt in the fuel line and filter must have fouled up the carb enricher and cant open throttle too quickly on the engine. Need to reopen carb up and clean/check.

Testing the engine
After cleaning the carburetor, we went ahead and borrowed the battery from the Tikarol's Pajero and Mansu went ahead to regap the spark plugs - they were quite worn at about 1.0 mm gaps. Contact point was all oxidized and dirty so that was removed and cleaned. Set static timing at about 5 degree ATDC. After a few tries and priming the carb with a few squirts of gas...

Carburetor cleanup
After checking the engine oil and seeing that it was find and no water has gotten in which the original owner was alleging, Mansu attempted and managed to turn the main pulley. But after checking the carburetor, it was full of gunk when we got it, so I took it off for general checking and cleaning. Washed the surface in soap and water before complete stripping. Lots of gummed up fuel and many bent lever and part which we managed to straighten. Cover screw threads are stripped as well as the mounting studs and throttle valve shafts are worn out and all leaky. Need to replace the carb soon but in the meantime a temporary fix to test the engine.

Acquisition of the Project Vehicle
The day we picked up the project - we bought this for PHP 17,000.00 plus PHP 500.00 finders fee for the tricycle operator that found it. Its a 1972 VW Beetle. Owner said it was not working (engine wont turn) and flood water managed to go as high as a foot and a half a couple of times where the bug was parked.
The seller was so proud of it had many good things to say about it. And despite the way it looked, he was convinced that the paint job was really good and that the engine was good. He did say that the tranny was replaced with one from a VW Brasilia as the old was had to go.
